Tarot Spotlight: Donna McGee

By January 19, 2017 April 15th, 2021

Welcome to Tarot Spotlight, where I shine the light on our Biddy Tarot Community members who are making a real difference with Tarot as a guide.

In this post, I chat with Donna McGee – a free Tarot reader in the Biddy Tarot Community.

Donna first discovered the Tarot cards at 15, but it wasn't until later that she connected with the cards. Once she reconnected with the Tarot, she felt overwhelmed by the need to memorize the card meanings. Eventually, she came to realize that reading Tarot isn’t about rote memorization, but learning how to read the cards intuitively.

Read on to learn Donna’s journey and how she became a free Biddy Tarot reader.

How did you first get into Tarot?

I’ve always had this pull towards mystical things that promoted awareness and intuition. I bought my first deck of Rider Waite Tarot cards when I was 15. I would sit on the floor, kind of hiding behind the side of my bed, flipping through them, trying to feel something magical and waiting for it to “click.” It never did.

Now, I suspect it was because I hadn’t experienced enough life lessons to really connect with the deck. I was a highly sheltered kid and couldn’t really relate to the pictures. Through the years when I needed comfort, I would pick them up. So weird that shuffling through them and drawing one would help ease my mind, even though I didn’t really know how to interpret the message.

How do you use Tarot now?

I draw a card every morning to see what lies ahead for my day. When I question what I should do or how something might play out, I will do a spread. It’s tricky though, because it is so hard for me to read and be objective with myself.

I primarily read on the Biddy Tarot Free Tarot Reading platform, which has led me to read for people all over the world and the feedback has been astounding.

What steps did you take to learn to read Tarot?

Last year, I was going through a rough patch personally and I was drawn to buy a new deck, the Crystal Tarot. Even though I was drawn to the deck, reading the little Tarot books didn’t work. I’m terrible with memorizing sets of data. I found an online class, where I became certified. It taught me to read Tarot through interpreting the signs or pieces of the picture on the cards using intuition, which made complete sense to me.

Still, something was missing. Then, Biddy Tarot appeared one day.  I jumped at the chance to learn from a community of like-minded people while honing my craft by giving readings to complete strangers.  That is where my true growth began to transpire.

What was one of the biggest challenges you've faced learning Tarot?

One of my biggest challenges was feeling like I am a “real Tarot Reader,” because I don’t read the cards like other readers. Everything is on a linear level for me, although I do use my intuition in interpreting the meanings and drawing connections. I would read Tarot blogs about how images come to life for readers and they received “feelings” from the cards. It kind of had me feeling like a fraud. That is, until I started reading for strangers on the platform. Since then, I have worked through that issue. All of the amazing feedback and comments I steadily receive gave me the push I needed, still does.

What One thing made learning Tarot easy & joyful for you?

Once I figured out it wasn’t about memorizing the card, but connecting with it on a different level, learning the Tarot came together for me. The meanings aren’t going to be the same for everyone; interpretations change with the situation, intention, and even decks. It’s okay not to “know.”

What's one of your proudest moments as a Tarot Advisor?

I love it when the cards tell me something which sparks my intuition to a level of insight that gives me chills. It inspires me to continue to offer clients insightful reading experiences that motivate them to become better versions of themselves. Tarot empowers me live more authentically, so being able to offer that to others makes me proud. It’s hard to pick one specific moment because so many have been extremely meaningful.

What's next for you when it comes to Tarot?

Learning and more learning. Tarot is an endless learning process, which I love.

Beyond learning, I am currently in the planning phases of creating an online Tarot business. I am so excited about the potential this avenue has to offer, especially when combined with my other talents.

She sees Tarot as a tool that can give clarity in life situations, like a confidant who listens and then provides feedback that you need to hear, not necessarily what you want to hear. What she loves most about Tarot is that the advice shown by cards is not absolute, but discerning of possible outcomes.

When she isn't shuffling the Tarot deck, you can find her chasing her kids around, teaching about essential oils, or learning about crystal grids. She can be found at www.sunsageandtarot.com.
