Tarot Readers: Do You Know Your Worth?

Tarot Reader Pricing Mistakes
The 3 Biggest Pricing Mistakes for Tarot Readers

Tarot readers – are you really charging what you’re worth?
Would it be nice to earn more – and feel good about it?

It’s absolutely possible to have a thriving Tarot business and to make more money doing what you love. But over the years, I’ve seen Tarot readers make the same pricing mistakes over and over again.

Don’t leave money on the table.

Read about the 3 biggest pricing mistakes I’ve seen countless Tarot readers make, and learn how you can earn what you’re worth.

1. You Charge for the Time Invested Not the Value Created

We often price our Tarot readings based on the number of minutes we invest in the reading or the number of cards used. E.g. $30 for 30 minutes or $25 for a 5-card reading.

But when we do this, we're missing the most important thing in pricing – the value we offer our client. (or how much our client values the insights from the reading)

We're focused on how much time we need to spend on the reading. But we're forgetting that the most important thing is how much value the client is receiving from the reading.

Think about it this way…

As a reader, I could charge $30 for a 30-minute reading. Or, I could charge $100 to help you understand your life purpose and integrate it into your everyday life. Which would you choose?

When we start pricing in terms of the transformation created, we make it more compelling for our clients and we can charge higher fees because the value placed on that transformation is much higher than just a 30-minute Tarot reading.

To really make this work, you need to understand what value you offer as a Tarot reader, and what your client truly values (and will pay money for).

If you think Tarot is just a fun party trick, you're not going to feel good about charging $100+ for a Tarot reading.

But if you're clear that what you offer within the context of a Tarot reading can fundamentally change people's lives for the better, then you're going to feel amazing at charging a higher price. (In fact, $100 seems incredibly cheap when you think it could change someone's life!)

You also need to be clear about what your clients value. What are they willing to pay for? Soulful advice? Future predictions? Transformational change? An action plan for manifesting a goal? Get clear about the outcome of the reading, and then price the reading based on that outcome.

2. You Base Your Tarot Reading Prices on the ‘Competition'

I hear it time and time again.

“Oh, I can't possibly charge $100 when everyone else is charging $5 on Etsy/$25 down the road/$30 at the local market!”

So you drop your prices to either the same as your competition, or just under, hoping that people will choose you over them because you charge less.

But here are the problems you are creating for yourself.

And Avoid Getting Stuck When Trying To Remember The Card Meanings

  • You are basing your Tarot reading prices on someone else's relationship with money. They might feel guilty about charging for a ‘spiritual gift' so they drop their prices. They might under-value their services or doubt their abilities, so they drop their prices. They might not even care about money at all, so they drop their prices. Should their story with money affect your story with money? No way!
  • You end up doing Tarot readings at a fraction of the price you feel you deserve and as a result, you feel resentful, under-valued and burnt out. Is that what you want in your Tarot reading business?
  • You will never win. Competing on price is one of the most soul-destroying ways to run a business. It commoditises your Tarot readings and turns them into a cheap ‘party trick'. I don't know about you, but I would much rather be a trusted Tarot advisor than a cheap party trick.

Here's what you need to do instead.

Focus on YOU, not your competition. (And who really believes in competition anyway? We've all got something unique to offer.)

Tune into your intuition. What price feels intuitively right to you and your customers? What price reflects the true value of what you offer?

3. You Attract the Wrong Type of Client

You set up a booth at the local Farmers Market, offering your $250 Find Your Soul Purpose readings… but no-one comes.

Or you jump online and set up a Facebook page for your Tarot readings, but the only enquiries you get are from people who just want a free Tarot reading.

The problem is that you haven't connected with your dream client.

So your prices and your offers are way off, and you're unintentionally attracting people who do not value what you have to offer.

Here's what you need to do instead.

Get clear about your dream client – the person with whom you do your very best work. Who are they? Where do they hang out? What do they value? How can you serve them?

Then go to where they are, be helpful and useful, and then ask how you can be of service.

The bottom line? If you want to earn what you’re worth as a Tarot reader, you’ll need to price your readings based on the transformation you create – not the time you invest. Price your Tarot readings based on what feels right for you (and your clients), not what your competition is charging. Ignore those $5 readings on Etsy! You’re one in a million. And devote energy to attracting your dream clients who truly value what you have to offer.
